ISSUE #34

👋 Hey NCC golfers,

Happy Tuesday!

Quick heads-up: we’re making a small change to how often this lands in your inbox for the winter (details below). Nothing to worry about, and I think you’ll get it.

Also inside: turkey shootouts to close out the season, Halloween at the courses, and St. Anne’s 2027 memberships are out.

Let’s get into it.

A Quick Note on What’s Next!

When I started this newsletter back in March, I had one rule: only send something worth your time.

Seven months later, that’s still the rule, and it’s exactly why I’m writing this.

Golf season in New Castle County is winding down. The tee sheets are thinning, the courses are shifting into winter mode, and honestly, there’s just less happening week to week than there was in June. That’s not a bad thing. It’s just that time of the year.

So here’s what’s changing: for the winter, The NCC Golf Report is going to every other week.

Not because I’m slowing down on this, but because I’d rather hand you one great issue every two weeks than stretch to fill a thinner one every seven days.

A few things to know:

  • We’ll be back to weekly when the season heats up. This is a winter rhythm, not a permanent one. When the courses open back up and the calendar fills again in the spring, so does your inbox.

  • If something big breaks, you’ll still hear from me right away. A course closing, a major local story, a deal worth jumping on, that doesn’t wait for a schedule. Those come the same day, every-other-week cadence or not.

  • The social pages aren’t going anywhere. If you want the day-to-day, Facebook and Instagram stay active. That’s where the quick stuff lives.

And don’t worry, I’ve still got plenty cooking. A full look back at the year in NCC golf is on the way, the winter indoor golf scene is heating up and we’ll be all over it, and there’s more I’m not ready to spoil yet.

This whole thing only works because you actually care about local golf as much as I do. Going biweekly for the winter lets me keep showing up the way you deserve, with something real every time.

Thanks for being here. See you in two weeks (or sooner, if the golf gods make news).

I ❤️ New Castle County Golf.

Turkey Shootout Season Is Almost Here!
RSVP Your Group Now!

If there’s one golf tradition that refuses to let the season end quietly, it’s the turkey shootout. And this year, NCC courses are running some special events, each with a canned-food drive built in, so you can get a round in and help stock a Thanksgiving table at the same time.

Here’s your lineup:

🦃 Rock Manor, Saturday November 14. 8am registration, 9am shotgun. $85 public / $69 Rock Card / $55 member, includes the round, range balls, hot dog lunch, and prizes. Bring canned goods (2 cans = 1 mulligan, max 5). 2-Person Teams – Scramble Format.

🦃 St. Anne’s “Superintendent’s Revenge,” Sunday November 15. The wild card. 10am shotgun, two-person scramble, $100/team (plus $50 greens for non-members), 15 teams only, $750 prize pool, and a late lunch at the Whiskey Bar.

🦃 Ed Oliver, Saturday November 21. 9am shotgun scramble. $180 member / $240 Elite Card / $300 public foursome, includes greens fee, buffet, and prizes. 2 cans = 1 mulligan (max 3), benefiting the Food Bank of Delaware.

🦃 Delcastle, Saturday November 21. 9am shotgun. Price includes 18 holes with cart, a Thanksgiving-themed lunch at the turn, and prizes for the team contest, closest to the pin, and longest drive. Bring canned goods for the Food Bank of Delaware, each can redeems for a mulligan (no limit on cans, max 4 per group).

Grab a partner (or three), pick your date, and go close out the season right. The food banks will thank you!

Three birdies in a row is a “turkey.” What’s the far rarer term for four consecutive birdies?

Hey NCC crew,

Quick ask before you go.

As we shift to every other week for the winter, the social pages (Facebook and Instagram) are where the day-to-day stuff will live. And that’s where you come in.

If your course, league, or local spot has something worth sharing, an event, a deal, a winter league, a hole-in-one, a good story, send it my way.

Same goes if you just see something cool happening in NCC golf. Reply to this email or message us on social, and we’ll help get the word out.

This newsletter has always worked because you all actually care about local golf. Keep the tips coming, and we’ll keep sharing them.

See you out there.

I ❤️ New Castle County Golf.
