ISSUE #29

👋 Hey NCC golfers,

NFL Week 1 is in the books, which also means Fall golf is here!

This week we're breaking down 5 local spots where you can get your golf fix and catch every snap. It's your football-and-golf game plan for the whole season.

Also, we're hosting the NCC Mini Golf Championship under the lights, and you're invited! Details are in the Don't Miss This section below.

Let’s get into it.

Football AND Golf?

Here are 5 Local Spots

The NFL is back! But so is the Sunday dilemma we all face: Do you book a tee time, or watch back-to-back games?

Nothing pains me more than checking GolfNow during a game and seeing a wide-open tee sheet. I could have the whole course to myself!

But here's the good news: you don't have to choose.

New Castle County has become a genuinely great place to get your golf fix and catch every snap, sometimes at the same time. Here are five spots where football and golf live under one roof this fall.

Spot #1 - Patriots Glen (The Launch Zone)

This might be the perfect setup. The Launch Zone is a two-floor, 42-bay driving range with 25 HDTVs scattered throughout, so there's a game on at every bay. You can book your own private bay for only $25 per bay for an hour or $15 for a half-hour, plus $5 per person in your group (up to six). That makes this our top pick for the upcoming season. A full crew can post up, take turns hitting, and catch every game for next to nothing per person.

Not in the mood to swing? Head to the Tavern for one of their regular watch parties (they had a good one going for Seahawks-Patriots recently). Either way, golf, cold drinks, football on the TV. Hard to beat.

Spot #2 - Flight Indoor Golf

Flight Indoor Golf in Hockessin is the newest golf simulator in town, featuring 4 TrackMan bays. They are the only spot on this list targeting Monday Night Football with their upcoming MNF League.

Grab a partner, build a 2-person team, and play every Monday night for 1.5 hours. It costs $200 to join, but that works out to $20 a night at the end of the season. It runs September 14 through November 16, so if you want your Monday Night Football with a side of golf:

Spot #3 - Lefty's Alley & Eats (Newark)

Lefty's is your make-a-whole-night-of-it spot. It's a full sports bar with the games on, plus a Topgolf Swing Suite and a lineup of other activities under one roof.

We recommend saving this for a special occasion (birthday, graduation, etc.) as the sim rental is not cheap, and you’ll likely want to experience more than just golf when you visit.

Spot #4 - Birdie's Links & Drinks

This is the Sunday Night Football play. Specials run all-day long featuring $3 beers, $10 nachos, and specialty cocktails starting at $12.

Honestly, it’s great for a date night or meetup with friends kind of vibe. Play some glow-in-the-dark mini golf, maybe book a sim, and get some delicious food at their restaurant. Throw in an Eagles win, and you have yourself a perfect Sunday night.

Spot #5 - Your house! (Bring the sim to you)

Here's the wildcard, because I know some of you love to throw your own watch parties. First State Party Pros rents out portable golf simulator bays, so you can set up a sim right at your tailgate, backyard, or living room and have the game on right next to it.

They currently offer 2 packages:

  1. PAR-TEE Starter
    - Starts at $350 for 2 hours
    - Hitting Net and Garmin Approach Monitor

  2. VI-TEE Party Package
    - Starts at $500 for 2 hours
    - Fully Enclosed Inflatable Simulator Bay

Both options come with a TV stand, an on-site attendant, clubs, mats, and balls. You can inquire about booking by visiting their website here.

So there you have it. Maybe you don’t have to choose between sneaking 9 holes in after work or getting ready to watch your team this season. There are options for every night of the week, and in every corner of this county for football AND golf.

Also not mentioned on this list, but somewhat obvious, is your local course pub!

We can’t forget to mention our favorite pubs in the county like The Tavern at Back Creek, Highlands Whiskey Bar at St. Anne’s, The Greenhill Pub at Ed Oliver, and many more delicious options at our local courses.

Now please take a second to answer the poll below so I can learn more about the football fans who read this newsletter.

Hey NCC crew,

We're throwing our first-ever event on September 25, and it's already filling up. Which means it's a real chance to get in front of a room full of local golfers, and a whole newsletter and social audience beyond that.

So if you're a business owner, or you know one, we're looking for a few more sponsors, and some prizes for the winners. Whether you want your name on the event, a banner at the course, a shout-out to our readers, or just to toss in a prize and get some love, let's talk.

It's a fun, low-cost way to put your business in front of exactly the local crowd you'd want to reach.

Got something to contribute or want to sponsor? Just reply to this email and we'll work something out.

Otherwise, I'll see you at Riverwalk. Bring your putter.

I ❤️ New Castle County Golf.
