THIS WEEK’S BIG STORY
Refer Your Buddies. Get Local Golf Gear.

This newsletter has grown to 600 subscribers entirely through word of mouth and a little Facebook hustle.

Starting today, I’m making it worth your while.

Here's how it works:

Refer 3 new subscribers to NCC Golf Report and you'll receive 25% off sitewide plus free shipping at Hugh McLean Golf Apparel.

Now let me tell you why that matters:

Hugh McLean is a local golf apparel brand out of 📍 Elkton, MD.

The owner, Mike Broomall, is a Rock Manor member and the kind of guy who hand delivers your order to your house.

I know because it happened to me! Thanks Mike!

Mike Broomall (Founder of Hugh McLean) & his dog Sammy!

The gear speaks for itself. Quality at a price you seriously can’t beat.

Made at the same factory as Bad Birdie apparel (IYKYK).

Hoodies & Polos starting at $35! Plus some sharp hats for only $25!

Take 25% off those prices and get free shipping when you refer 3 buddies.

It’s a no brainer folks.

Quality golf gear at a price that doesn't make you feel like you need to justify it to your spouse.

And here's what makes it easy to feel good about:

A percentage of every sale goes to Maryland and Delaware area animal rescues.

It’s a TRUE local brand, with a local cause, made by a local golfer.

Your referral link is below. ⬇️

Share it. When 3 people subscribe through your link the discount code is yours.

I personally would rather support a local golf apparel business than a greedy big company any day of the week. Just saying.

THIS WEEK’S COURSE INTEL
Course Updates

This week’s NCC Golf Trivia Question:

Rock Manor's grass tees are currently closed. What temperature do night-time temps need to consistently hit before they open?

Here's what’s happening in NCC this week:

🪨 Rock Manor

Superintendent Jim gave us the full breakdown on the grass tee situation this week and it's worth understanding.

The grass range at Rock Manor is Bermuda. Which thrives in heat but is extremely vulnerable to cold. Jim's target window is late May to early June, contingent on nighttime temps consistently staying above 60°F.

Until then, mat tees only. Worth the wait.

📅 Registration for the May Tee It Up and Learn to Play Series closes soon.

🃏 25 Rock Cards remaining for 2026.

🏰 Delcastle

⚠️ Heads up Delcastle crew. There is a brand new speed camera on McKennans Church Road, right on the way to the course. 🙄

🏀 The Delaware Blue Coats announced a golf outing at Delcastle on May 21st. Sixers affiliate, local venue, good cause.

Maybe Embiib will make a guest appearance? 🤷 Register here

🦌 Deerfield

Two updates that will make your next round better.

🍹 2 brand new beverage carts just hit the course. One green Jameson cart and one orange Tito's cart. Availability depends on the number of golfers out that day, but they're here and they're ready.

⛳ Bunkers are getting more sand added this week. If you've played Deerfield recently and noticed thin traps, that's being addressed.

🌾 Back Creek

⚠️ Course closed Monday and Tuesday for aeration.

No live music or trivia this week. The Tavern has a ladies league night and a private event on the books. Check back next week.

⚜️ St. Anne's

Two things worth your attention.

🏊 Pool membership is $100 off for a limited time. $599 total for the season. This won't last long. To lock it in, call the pro shop or email [email protected].

🚜 The new superintendent just acquired 2 new pieces of fancy equipment. This is exactly the kind of investment the course needs. Worth watching what the conditions look like over the next few weeks as the new crew finds its rhythm.

🐮 Odessa National

Tight tee sheets Wednesday through Friday this week.

Wednesday has ladies league. Thursday is a high school match. Friday is a private outing. If you want to play Odessa this week, book now or you're not getting on.

Beyond NCC…

Nearby golf happenings, courses worth the trip, and things worth knowing outside New Castle County.

🏌️ Garrisons Lake

Two things on the calendar worth knowing.

⭐️ The Caesar Rodney High School Golf Outing is set for May 29th. Every dollar goes directly toward keeping the marching band program running.

The new clubhouse is expected to be open for the event - first time most people will see it.

Registration deadline is May 15th so don't sit on this one.

To sign up or ask questions, contact the organizer directly at 978-697-3784.

Mizuno Fitting Day runs from 11 AM to 3 PM this Saturday. 🏌️

🇺🇸 Patriots Glenn

Quizzo Trivia every Tuesday from 6-8 PM. This Thursday, Exit 93 performs live from 7-9 PM. Good off-course option if you're in the Newark area.

⛳ Chesapeake Bay Golf Club (Rising Sun, MD)

I played here for the first time last week. About 30 minutes outside Newark into Rising Sun, Maryland. I was not expecting what I found.

Conditions that brought a tear to my eye. A juicy pub burger worth sticking around after the round. And genuinely exciting holes from start to finish.

I'm honestly annoyed it took me this long to find it. If you've never played it, go.

📚 Meet Fred Ridley and Delaware Golf Legend John Riley

Delaware golf author John Riley is releasing his new book, “The Last Amatuer”.

Riley is a UD golf team captain turned award-winning author who, fun-fact, is the guy responsible for renaming Greenhill Golf Course after Ed "Porky" Oliver back in 1983. He literally named the course we cover.

His new book covers the life of Jay Sigel, one of the most decorated amateur golfers in American history.

Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National, contributed a 2 page personal account of competing against Sigel in Walker Cup competition. He will be in attendance to share a few remarks.

The event is at Aronimink Golf Club. Reception starts at 4 PM, program with Ridley's remarks at 5 PM.

Also in attendance, Charlie McDowell, a Wilmington native who beat Sigel in the 1961 US Junior final. He'll be 81 in June.

If you're a student of the game this one is worth the trip. I will see you there!

Editor’s Notes

Hello, fellow New Castle County golf lovers.

The feedback I've been getting over the past few weeks has been genuinely motivating. Texts, emails, comments, DMs.

I read all of it and I appreciate every single one.

This newsletter exists because you keep opening it, sharing it, and telling people about it. That means everything to me.

A lot of you are asking me to include more courses.

My goal is actually to grow this to statewide coverage.

“The Delaware Golf Report” ( sounds a lot nicer than NCC Golf Report lol )

But I’m in no rush. I want to do right by you, and provide a quality product.

Until next Tuesday. ⛳

I ❤️ New Castle County Golf!

Enjoy the read? Help us out and share it with your golf buddies! Let’s grow New Castle County golf!

Until next week,
