THIS WEEK’S BIG STORY
NCC Golf Report x Twilight Golf League.
It's Official.

This one has been in the works for a minute. Today we make it official.
NCC Golf Report has partnered with Twilight Golf League, and if you've been looking for a reason to get out and play more golf this season, this is it.
Here's the deal.
Twilight Golf League runs recreational after-work leagues at local host courses in short seasons. Rock Manor, Ed Oliver, and Deerfield host in NCC.
Team-based format, men and women of all ages and skill levels welcome. Friendly and competitive at the same time. The kind of golf you actually look forward to after a long day of work.
Here's exactly how it works:
Sign up for a season (solo or with teammates). Don't have a full crew? No problem, they'll place you on a team.
Tell them your tee time preferences during registration. League organizers handle the rest and lock you in with a consistent weekly tee time at the lowest available 9-hole green fee. You just show up.
Play 9 holes with your team every week. Live leaderboards track scores and standings all season. There's something on the line every single week.
That's it.
No complicated process. No intimidation. No excuses.
As an NCC Golf Report reader you get special access to sign up today!

THIS WEEK’S COURSE INTEL
Course Updates

This week’s NCC Golf Trivia Question:
Which course pictured above has the longest Par 5?
It's been a big maintenance week across NCC. Crews have been grinding.
Delcastle aerated greens AND par 3 boxes, what to expect.
Back Creek had a wild week of work, and of course something broke!
Odessa is finally fixing a drainage problem.
St. Anne's has announced the new restaurant coming soon!
Ed Oliver quietly making stunning improvements.
Here's what you need to know:
🏰 Delcastle
🌱 Greens and par 3 tee boxes were aerated this week, followed by verti-cutting and top dressing to minimize impact and speed up recovery. If you're heading out this week expect some surface irregularities on the greens, but nothing that should ruin a round.

👏 Big shoutout to Superintendent Steve a.k.a “Super Steve”, and the entire maintenance crew. Aeration week is not glamorous work, but necessary.
🌾 Back Creek
The Back Creek crew had what can only be described as a wild week.
✅ Pre-emergent was applied to greens, tees, and fairways. (The treatment that stops weeds before they even germinate.) Just don’t eat the grass. ☠️
✅ Gypsum went down on tees and fairways. If you're not familiar, gypsum is a soil conditioner that breaks up compacted soil and improves drainage heading into the season. Good stuff.
But the irrigation system had other plans…
⚠️ A decoder or lightning arrestor went out on their 2-wire irrigation system mid-week, sending the crew into repair mode. The 2-wire system is how most modern courses control every sprinkler head on the property from a central controller. When a decoder fails, entire sections stop responding. They posted photos of the repair in progress. Wires pulled, meters out, boots in the mud. This is what keeping a course running actually looks like.

Their own caption said it best: "Some days you win, some days you lose."
Shoutout to the Back Creek maintenance crew for grinding through it. 👏
🎵 Live music at the Back Creek Tavern this week, 6–9pm:
Thursday 4/24 — Rick Sommers
Friday 4/25 — Dave Boucher
Good excuse to play nine and stay for a drink after work.
🏌️♀️ Ladies Clinic on Wednesday: call the pro shop to check availability/time.
🪨 Rock Manor
📅 The May Tee It Up and Learn to Play Series has been announced and tickets are going fast. If you have someone in your life trying to get into golf, these are worth grabbing before they sell out:
🃏 About 25 Rock Cards remaining for 2026. If you play Rock Manor on Fridays regularly this is a legitimate money saver. Call the pro shop before they're gone.
🍔 On the Rock Pub specials are back, rotating throughout the week. The parking lot and clubhouse sealcoating is complete. The place is looking sharp.
Personal note: I've been seriously considering making Rock Manor my primary practice facility. Delcastle no longer permits chipping on the practice area, and Rock Manor's putting green is so pure. The only downside is having to smell the pub the entire time. A man can only resist for so long.
🐮 Odessa National
Odessa is fixing something that has been a quiet frustration since the course opened in 2021.
Drainage is being added to multiple bunkers, and some are being resized in the process.

📸 Photos taken on 4/19 of Holes 5 & 6.
Will the drainage upgrades be enough to compete with Frog Hollow this year? That's a real question. Frog Hollow has long been one of the better draining courses in the county. We'll see how Odessa holds up after the first heavy stretch.
👏 Shoutout to Joel, the starter out at Odessa. Good guy, always worth a conversation when you check in.
⚜️ St. Anne's
Two updates worth your attention this week.
🍽️ The restaurant has a name. Casa 19 Kitchen and Bar is officially announced as the new food and beverage operation at St. Anne's. No open date yet but we'll keep you posted as it gets closer. For now, the Whiskey Bar remains open.

🏆 The VGA Delaware State Championship is coming to St. Anne's on Saturday, June 6th.
Here's what you need to know: 100-player field, $118 entry, awards lunch immediately following. Delaware resident registration is open now through May 16th.
If you want a competitive individual round on one of the better layouts in NCC with a real field, this is it. Don't sleep on the registration window.
🐷 Ed Oliver
Quick one. Ed Oliver is refilling bunkers with fresh sand. If you've played there recently and noticed worn-out bunker surfaces, that's getting addressed. Quiet improvement, but a good one.
🏰 Garrisons Lake
A correction from last week.
In Issue 07 I reported that Garrisons Lake no longer accepts walk-ons. That was wrong and I want to set the record straight.
Garrisons Lake does accept walk-ons. What's actually happening is the course is getting busier. Steve Farrell, the GM, noted they've had days booked until 5pm, and they recommend booking a tee time in advance to guarantee you get out.
👏 Thanks to Steve for jumping in the comments to clarify.
🏗️ New clubhouse is still coming along nicely out there. Worth a trip down to Smyrna this spring!

Beyond NCC…
A note before we get into this: I've gone back and forth on whether to include Patriots Glenn in this newsletter. Technically they're in Elkton, MD. Just over the Delaware line. But they're probably 15 minutes from most of us, I'd bet a lot of you have played there, and they are honestly more active than most courses I cover. So starting this issue, they get their own section. Consider it an honorary local. Thoughts welcome, reply to this email.
🇺🇸 Patriots Glenn - Elkton, MD
A lot going on over the border this week:
🧠 Quizzo Trivia Night: Every Tuesday, 6–8pm
🎸 Sunset Riders live: Thursday 4/24, 7–10pm
🎤 Music Bingo and Karaoke: Saturday 4/26, 7–10pm
The driving range alone is worth the trip. Targets, fun layout, the works. If you haven't been, now you have a reason to go.

📸 The Launch Zone at Patriot’s Glenn Golf Course
Patriots Glenn is technically in Maryland, not NCC. Should we cover them?
Editor’s Notes
Hello, fellow New Castle County golf lovers.
Maintenance week across NCC is not the sexiest newsletter topic. But it might be the most useful one.
Knowing that Delcastle aerated, that Back Creek's irrigation crew had a rough week, that Odessa is finally getting bunker drainage sorted, that's exactly the kind of thing you can't find anywhere else.
That's the whole point of this newsletter.
There are so many stories I want to share, so many amazing people I want to spotlight here in NCC, so many cool event ideas I have, and we are only on our 8th week doing this.
The NCC Golf Report exists to give local golfers the voice, the community, and the intel they never had.
This isn't national golf media. This is yours. And I’m honored to be a steward of it.
Now, Spring in Delaware is moving fast. Get out there while the conditions are right.
Don’t forget to thank the maintenance crew next time you see them out there too. They deserve their flowers.
And as always…
I ❤️ New Castle County Golf!
