THIS WEEK’S BIG STORY
Vandalism at Delcastle

Here’s What We Know.

The Delcastle maintenance crew arrived Sunday morning to a mess.

Divots ripped out of greens. Chunks taken from putting surfaces. Yardage stakes moved. Smiley faces dug into the greens.

All of it from sometime Saturday afternoon.

Here's what the grounds crew had to say:

"An unfortunate start to ours yesterday when our Grounds crew discovered some damage from Saturday afternoon to the greens. Divots, chunks taken out, yardage stakes moved, that doesn't exactly have us 'smiling.' We really hope those that did this regret it now that it's a few days later. Our team works extremely hard to put out the best possible product they can and folks like this really ruin it for the rest of the community."

Image of yardage marker removed and damage done to green

The last time a local course had serious vandalism around here was in July 2023, riders on dirt bikes tore up a green at Rock Manor badly enough to make it unplayable.

That incident went viral after the video below surfaced online and made national golf media.

The damage required extensive repair work from the grounds crew, and the investigation was handled by New Castle County Police. (I’m unsure if they ever caught the suspect.)

The aftermath of the Rock Manor dirt bike vandalism

That was the last time we saw something this serious at an NCC public course.

These crews are out there early, in the heat, on weekends, keeping courses playable for the rest of us.

This kind of damage doesn't just cost money to fix. It takes greens offline, slows down recovery timelines, and punishes everyone who plays the course the right way.

If you're out on any NCC course and you see something like this happening, say something.

Report it to the pro shop.

THIS WEEK’S COURSE INTEL
Course Updates

Featured Hole of the Week: Hole #3 at Odessa National

The Masters may be in Augusta this week, but there is plenty of action happening right here in New Castle County:

  • Aeration season is here! Find out when your favorite course is aerating.

  • NCC’s favorite on-course bev cart is back this weekend.

  • An opportunity to test out Cobra’s new OPTM line of clubs.

Here's what you need to know:

🏰 Delcastle

Beyond the vandalism above, the practice green remains putting only for now last I checked.

👏 Shoutout to Brandon Karpinkski, Director of Golf, for keeping the team steady through a rough start to the week.

🪨 Rock Manor

Greens and fairways were aerated and are healing well.

The crew has been refilling bunkers with fresh sand. Most green side bunkers are complete and the agro team has started on fairway bunkers.

🍔 The 2026 pub menu is live and the smash burger is already a big hit.

🏌️‍♂️ Junior camp registration is up, and a lot of the full-day slots are almost fully booked. Don't wait if you've got a kid who wants in.

Outings are light in April but picking up in May.

🐷 Ed Oliver

Ed Oliver is closed Tuesday, April 8th (today) for aeration and parking lot resurfacing. Think of it as a full facelift day. They'll be back open Wednesday looking fresh.

🐸 Frog Hollow

🍹 The Beverage Cart is back Friday and Saturday, featuring Molly. If you know, you know.

🚜 The bunker updates/repairs are completed and looking nice on Holes 4 & 5.

🌾 Back Creek

📅 Aeration is scheduled for April 27-28. Plan around it if you're a member or regular.

☀️ Grass range is now open Friday through Sunday, in line with current cart path rules.

⚜️ St. Anne's

👷‍♂️ New grounds crew is on board and already putting in the work.

🏌️ The range is, well, a work in progress. Fresh dirt and new seed are down, so give it a little time. It'll get there.

🐮 Odessa National

🏌️ Spring Classic registration deadline is April 19th, play date is April 25th. The format is one of the more interesting ones I've seen at an NCC course:

Scramble on holes 1-6

Better Ball on 7-12

Select Drive/Alternate Shot on 13-18.

Worth a look if you want a competitive two-man event this spring.

🦌 Deerfield

🗓️ Yappy Hour! is April 11th from noon to 4pm: it's a dog adoption event, and they're raffling off a free round to anyone who shows up and makes a donation.

Bring an ID, meet some dogs, maybe win some golf.

Not a bad Friday.

🌳 Garrisons Lake

🏌️‍♀️ Cobra Golf Fitting Day is April 10th, just 4 days out. No purchase necessary, and they're offering discounts on all orders during the fitting.

This is a great chance to try their new OPTM line of clubs. Set up your appointment before slots fill.

Your comments, and feedback are welcomed. Please share your thoughts in the comments section of this email.

I have a feeling there will be some real competition at this tournament. Things could get ugly.

Good old fashion Beer Pong. 🤔 I wonder if they allow bounce shots.

Editor’s Notes: Hello, New Castle County.

Hello, fellow New Castle County golf lovers.

I started NCC Golf Report last month right after losing my job, because I really believe our local golf scene deserves its own dedicated coverage and community hub.

I moved here in 2023 and fell in love with the golf scene fast.

You’ve probably seen me at Delcastle grinding out a bucket, or at Back Creek walking 18 early morning. Don’t hesitate to stop and say hello if you do!

After showing up to a local range (I won’t name which one), and finding out they had closed early a few hours before I arrived, I had enough.

I set out to centralize all of the local golf news, happenings, and updates into one place.

And every issue takes time, green-fees, and gas money to keep improving.

If you're in a position and feel this newsletter brings you value, you can support the project by donating below. It helps me keep it free and make it better each week.

If you can't or don't want to, no worries at all. Reading, sharing, and sending info my way is already a big help. I don’t expect you to pay me anything.

As always, thank you for reading, and I'm wishing you all the best of luck on the course this week!

I ❤️ New Castle County Golf!

Enjoy the read? Help us out and share it with your golf buddies! Let’s grow New Castle County golf!

Until next week,
The NCC Golf Report
